Our Hue

The earth is such a tiny home
that nurtures hearts immense.
Deep into the dark, I roam,
dancing the great expanse.
The universe is fully known,
every careless cosmic romance,
so don't ever think that you're alone.
Nothing here is left to chance.

So, look up in your starry sky.
I twinkle just for you.
And how I wish that you could fly;
Oh, how you'd love the view.
Above the clouds, you could be mine
and I would be yours too
and those below would see our shine;
they'd shimmer in our hue.

Finite

The spark of glitter
in my eyes,
the shakes, the jitters,
I can't deny.
I hear a song,
can't make the words.
I sing along.
I think you heard.
Air in my hair,
you in my blood,
somehow I'm there
in the moon and the sun.

But it's finite and fake,
fever dream, not fact;
it's the best we can make;
it's a suicide pact.
I can't breathe.
My voice is choked.
I'm underneath
a heavy cloak.
Alone in blackness,
covered in scars.
I think the blackness
overtook the stars.

Vastness

The vastness takes
my breath away.
The void rocks
to and fro.
Through the dark,
despite the light,
you somehow found
my glow.
When you breath,
I'll be your air.
Hold me in.
Don't let go.
This atmosphere
is all we have.
Heart beat.
Blood flow.

Longing

I don't want it to hurt;
I want it to be beautiful.
I want the cool cheeks
of our calm autumn nights,
"I love yous" in the rustling
of newly fallen leaves,
secrets whispered
through the trustworthy breeze,
and that way the moon looks at me -
like the longing lover lost.

Late Afternoon

I breathe in your air
and hum to your tune.
If hours were fair,
then I'd be home soon,
but I'm lost in the glare
of this late afternoon.
I just want to be there
underneath your moon.

Daydream

I stepped inside your daydream
to find my world perfected.
Upon your face, a smile gleamed,
my heart you had collected.
I thought I felt you take my hand.
I thought I heard you sing.
Nothing ever goes as planned:
your map, your watch, your ring.
I thought I heard you tell a truth,
but lost it in translation.
It sounded something quite uncouth,
negotiated narration.
From the sky, a fog dispeased
and covered me in grey.
Of all your fears, I am the worst,
so hide your love away.

So Dance the Stars

Maybe I'm dreaming
that song of ours.
I hear the sky is singing:
so dance the stars.
Upon them, I wished
and told not a soul.
It might have been selfish,
but I meant it with all
the blood that I keep
in antiquated arteries.
I'll tell not a peep
of those longing love stories.
Yet, I only find your eyes
on crystal clear nights.
Our satellite spies
whisper secrets in light.
When the clouds lay thick,
I feel you're gone.
Maar nu zie ik

Out of Light

You don't think it's like me,
but I don't think you know me
well enough to make that call
or maybe even not at all
anymore.
I'm down on the floor.
Let me take a hit.
You think I won't like it,
but I think you just don't want me to.
I wish I knew which lines were true.
Now, poetry is distance
with a mean side of persistence,
but I still place you far above.
What a careless love.
The sound of your voice,
you've kept hidden by choice,
is a promise never kept,
just a dreams as I've slept.
And I don't believe you're trying
and it's fucking terrifying.
So, I'm floating out of sight,
out of mind, out of light.

Just kinda thinking about stars exploding. They get really bright in our skies and then fade and, eventually, their light fades and goes out entirely. And their light actually went out long before we got that message here on Earth.

Always

I wondered if you heard me
when I dreamed I called your name.
I know I'm just too far to see.
Of you, I feel the same.
I told myself it couldn't be,
but watched the growing flame.
I can't contend with sky or sea,
though neither are to blame.

The planet turns, hours pass;
the record skips, but plays.
My heart is beating: spits and spats;
my mind: it is ablaze.
Remember when the earth was flat
and there were no wrong ways,
you searched for me through lakes and grass.
I searched for you always.

My Grayscale Skies

Clouds always
followed me
and tucked themselves
in tightly
under my blankets.
They muffled every
pretty song
and chilled every
warm word.
I never saw
the stars above
that twinkled far beyond
nor a single, singing
blue bird,
swimming in sunshine.
But when I met you,
my grayscale skies
turned blue.

Symphony

There are words inside
your suspicious silence.
Your tongue is tied
in disquieted defiance,
but I found your air
trapped in my lungs
and your secrets, I swear,
will remain unsung.
Your symphony on mute
is an exotic sort of treat.
I already know your truth;
I am your heartbeat.

Squeezes

You're the hand the plunges
deep inside my chest,
wraps fingers 'round my heart,
squeezes.
We share this blood
through waves in time,
so if you cut a vein,
you bleed me dry.
Try, as I might
to breathe on my own,
I can't fill my lungs,
no, not all alone.
My voice is prone
to crack and choke,
but I'll make my point
in the songs that you sing.
Yes, I'll say my piece
and let the noise cease.

The One Who Chooses

Your brain and your blood
will lie in your ears
drag your heart through the mud,
call out all your fears.
And I'm under your skin
only making matters worse.
I am what could have been
or I am your second verse.
There's a fork in your road
and a missing minute-hand.
You think you'll implode,
but it's time to take that stand.
If you make it through the haze
to see my bright blue skies,
let me show you all the ways
that you're my reason why.
So, you're still the one who chooses
and I still the one who waits,
but your soul never uses
a map to find its mate.
