And I Will Do the Same

You confess so very little
with so much still to tell,
It turns your tongue to brittle
as your lungs begin to swell.
The music in your fingers
sings a different kind of truth
and if my words still linger
some might find it uncouth
to dip and dabble in a dream
so real and yet so distant
that has me ripping at my seam:
so biting and so brilliant.
It's real if it floats through our air
down to our blood and bones
and no one promised love was fair
just that it would be known.
I want to see what your eyes see.
I want to know your name.
So, keep your arms outstretched for me
and I will do the same.

I Dream Soft Skin

The sky is pink;
the moon is new
and, if I blink,
I'm missing you.
I'm breathing out
the doubt I carry:
a careful shout,
a body buried.
The stars align
and tell their tales
as I opine
beneath their trails.
They've witnesses love
with their own eyes
from high above:
not new or wise.
I dream soft skin,
a heart that dances.
Where to begin -
such rare romances?

On July 11

Love is an intersection
of beauty and respect.
Love is a collection
of causes and effects.
Love leaps in all directions,
but it always correct.
Love sees your imperfections,
but not as imperfect.

Love is laughing and is crying,
is there in lows and highs.
Love is always trying
to find the compromise.
Love continues vying
to keep you as its prize.
Love is in this air, flying;
I can see it in your eyes.

This poem was written specifically for my friends' wedding. It's been written for a while, but I didn't want to post it publicly until after their wedding!

I Thought the Moon was Out

I thought the moon was out,
so I called it by your name
and never did I have a doubt
that you would do the same.

But, in fact, it was a street light
merely mocking at my longing,
laughing with a searing bite
at my attempted fawning.

I just wanted you to see me,
for you to feel my flesh,
but through this fog you cannot see
and I am such a mess.

So, I tossed and turned around my bed
and hid beneath my sheets.
I'd wrap myself in you instead
if only I could reach.

Line by Line

I'll tell you all my secrets.
You'll read them line by line.
I only write in present tense,
but only sometimes rhyme.
Around me, I have built a fence
behind which I opine,
but if you break down this defense,
I promise you'll be mine.

The Thread

Wrap me up tightly
and keep me all your own.
I'm depressed, only slightly,
from waiting all alone.
I am what you can't see,
that which is never known
but I'll smile politely
in case I'm ever shown.

Between the lines you read
was a subtle, shifting view:
the life you thought you led,
a heart pounding anew.
The moon shines overhead
and sings a lovely tune,
but I have lost the thread
that leads me home to you.

Anyway

You patch yourself up
well enough,
I suppose.
You put your party dress on.
You tell yourself
your scars
are only visible
through your own eyes.

So, you play your role
well enough,
I suppose.
But you stumble over
certain lines.
They'll only hear it
if they're listening.
And no one's really listening

anyway.
