I See You

I lose my words
and I lose my sight.
The lines are blurred,
can't even write.

But I see you
though dust and haze.
My heart is true.
Just stay. Just stay.

A Vague Memory

Put your hand
over your heart
and feel the rhythm
underneath.
With every breath,
with every beat,
please know that I'm
inside your veins.

Neurons spark,
connections made,
I am a thought,
a vague memory.
I'm a hand
you can't reach,
but I'm never
far away.

Enough

Out from the darkness,
you appeared.
Hope for the hopeless,
your warm hands neared,
shooed away the loneliness
for so long I had feared.
Your touch led me to acquiesce;
my hazy head now cleared.

"Beautiful," you called me.
Your eyes said you were true.
You sang to me about the bees,
the sun, the sky so blue:
such perfect, precious melodies
could only come from you.
In tune, I found my clarity
and heard your heart beat too.

Now, I want to be your air;
I want to fill you up.
This stillness is so sweet and rare;
I pray it never stops
So sing to me so fine and fair;
my verses are still rough.
I just want us to stay right where
I'll always be enough.

"So every breath stung more and more, a wave of whips across my spine, a billion bees trapped in my chest, nails on chalkboard every time 'til I watched your fingers sneak towards mine. I heard your breath go thin and short. I tucked your hair behind your ears and watched your eyes dart back and forth." Kevin Devine A Billion Bees

Nothing to Deny

Your words
are my knife;
they splice open
my guts
and leave me
blank and bleeding.
Pleading
my case,
debased and
battered down,
I drown
in reason
you twist into
linguistic treason.

Your punishment
for crimes
I've neither
committed nor
confessed
is this mess.
I'm tried
and convicted
as if you are
a victim.
But fuck an alibi;
I've nothing to deny.
But you can blame me when
you've no one left to blame.

Breathe Anew

Place the needle
in the groove
and then just breathe,
but do not move.
There's no one here
to disapprove.
In my arms,
nothing to prove,

Alive again,
blood rushes through
your dormant viens.
Lungs breathe anew.
I rest myself
on top of you.
What we have done,
we can't undo.

Holding On

Screaming and shouting,
dealing,
doubting,
I’m drowning in words
with no meaning.
Dreaming in tongues
and lost in the stars,
roaming
where time bends
like truth,
I’m holding on tight
to you.
The present is
within our view,
but out of reach
and I can't breach
the gap between
old love and new.

Home

This insanity:
what's becoming of me,
a whisper,
a thought,
warm lips,
ought not.
I push,
you pull,
in the end
we're both full.
I won't leave,
won't even breathe,
with my hand in yours,
looking into the stars.
Ours is a dream
that we've always known.
And I know that my home
is in this point in time.

Semantic Compromise

My words are in your eyes,
but now my tongue is tied.
The clock on my wall lied;
it told me poetry is time.
Regardless, now you're mine
and there is no other side,
no other love tested and tried,
confessed or cried
that so terrified
or left you paralyzed.
Breathlessly confide
the truths you know I’ll hide:
a mistake, a disguise,
a blameless broken bride,
a history revised,
a semantic compromise
and soon, the sun will rise

and I’ll still be in your skies.

Unsaid

Sometimes I wake
in the middle on the night
and I almost say to you
what we promised
would remain
unsaid.
Like a black incantation,
the syllables would force
the ground to shake beneath us.
Curse us,
back to us in threes,
bring us to our knees.

Still, the words fight
for freedom,
but I keep them locked
behind enamel bars.
My heart pounds
in her cage,
in a rage,
crying to be heard.
But I hold my breath
and I bite my tongue
and I toss and I turn
and I want and I wait.
